About ShareMeWeb
We believe file sharing should be instant, private, and free — without sacrificing security or convenience.
Our Mission
ShareMeWeb was founded with one simple belief: transferring a file from one device to another should be as easy as handing someone a USB stick — without any of the friction, privacy concerns, or costs associated with traditional cloud-based file sharing services.
Today, most file sharing involves uploading your data to a third-party server, waiting for it to finish, sending a link, and hoping the recipient downloads it before the link expires. Along the way, multiple companies may scan, analyze, or store your files. We think that's unnecessary and wrong.
ShareMeWeb uses WebRTC — a web standard built directly into modern browsers — to enable direct, encrypted, peer-to-peer file transfers. Your files go from your browser to the recipient's browser, with our servers acting only as a brief introduction service.
What We Do (and Don't Do)
We do:
- Provide a fast, reliable signaling server to help browsers establish direct connections
- Generate QR codes and session links for easy sharing
- Display your transfer progress in real time
- Support all modern browsers, including mobile
We don't:
- Store your files — not even temporarily
- Log file names, types, or sizes
- Require account registration
- Sell your data to third parties
- Impose file size limits
Our Values
Privacy by Design
Privacy is not a feature we added on top — it's the fundamental architecture of ShareMeWeb. The technical design makes it impossible for us to intercept your files, because they never pass through our systems.
Open Web Standards
We build on WebRTC, a W3C standard supported natively by all major browsers. We don't require proprietary plugins, browser extensions, or app downloads. If your browser supports WebRTC (and virtually all modern ones do), ShareMeWeb works.
Transparency
We're upfront about exactly how ShareMeWeb works. Our How It Works page provides a detailed technical explanation, and our Privacy Policy is written in plain language.
Accessibility
ShareMeWeb is free to use. No premium tier, no bandwidth throttling for free users, no hidden costs. We support ourselves through non-intrusive advertising that never affects the user experience or performance of transfers.
The Team
ShareMeWeb is built and maintained by a small team of web developers who care about privacy and open-source technology. We are distributed across multiple countries and collaborate remotely.
We are passionate believers in the open web and in building tools that respect user privacy. All core technology we use — WebRTC, Node.js, Socket.io — is open source.
Browser Support
ShareMeWeb works in any browser that supports the WebRTC DataChannel API:
- Google Chrome 56+ (desktop & Android)
- Mozilla Firefox 44+ (desktop & Android)
- Apple Safari 15+ (macOS & iOS)
- Microsoft Edge 79+
- Opera 43+
- Samsung Internet 6+
Internet Explorer is not supported (it was discontinued in 2022 and never implemented WebRTC).
